I'm sure you think there's nothing happening here at ATG HQ, but the truth is, progress is progressing. We have produced a first cut of a teaser, and when that's ready I'm thinking we'll put it up on the great and powerful YouTube.

A teaser, you ask? It's not a trailer. It's just a 30 second quickie of the "bet that'll pique your interest" variety.

We hope to have it in publically-consumable shape very soon.

Technical difficulties had put our efforts to edit In Character on pause. But now, following a typical computer-based miracle healing, we should be able to proceed to the editing stage! I'm so excited to finally get all of that footage onto the hard drive so I can see it! Edit it! Bring it life!

Announcement - New Mexico Independent Filmmakers Alliance

Interested in indie film? There's a new group forming in town, the NMIFA or New Mexico Independent Filmmakers Alliance. The purpose of this group is to create a network of indie filmmakers, a talent pool that covers the entire spectrum required to make a film, and to put people and projects together for the benefit of all.

The NMIFA is being put together by the talented Mr. Stephen Hall, who did all the lighting design for In Character. He's passionate about indie films and dedicated to quality. We were fantastically lucky to have him work with us, and expect that any group he puts together is going to work.

We have now completed principle photography on In Character. Monday morning, while most of America got some sleep in order to enjoy their Memorial Day Holiday, the Angry Tiki set was on location getting the last few scenes shot.

There are so many people to thank, so many lessons learned, so many stories to tell.

But not now.

I just can't do it now.

But I wanted to let everyone involved know that we have finished shooting - and kudos to all for a job well done!

Secret Backroom Dealings Revealed!

The thing that had me so excited I could hardly contain myself (but I'm glad I did, 'cause everything's official now) can now be announced!

After a remarkably short and extremely friendly period of hammering out an agreement, Steve Jackson Games has given us permission to use SJ Games stuff in our movie! That means when the guys are playing, they'll be able to use real GURPS stuff instead of mocked-up fake books! They'll be wearing SJ Games t-shirts (including my treasured In Nomine shirt)! They'll have Munchkin!

SJ Games has been extremely humane to deal with. They are totally cool. And the coolest thing ever is that I described to them a t-shirt I wanted in the movie, to see if we could make it within the bounds of our agreement, and they may actually make that shirt. Which would be freaking awesome.

If you're reading this, there's a good chance you like roleplaying games. If you do, and you haven't tried GURPS, I suggest you try it. It's been my number one system since high school. I play other games, but I keep going back to GURPS.

It's Like Going Home

The good news just keeps on coming in! We've gotten another location locked! And what a location it is!

In Character is about roleplaying gamers. I'm a roleplaying gamer. Have been since fourth grade. And when I started playing, the place for RPG stuff in town was a store called Wargames West. When I was a kid, a trip to Wargames West was like a trip to Disneyland. With swords and monsters.

Over the years, that store has gone through changes in location, name, and ownership. It's now called Active Imagination. And we get to shoot there! W00t!

Support From Local Business

In Character is about college students. So, there are a lot of scenes of them eating. That means we've got several restaurant locations in the screenplay. But we've gotten location support from several local restaurants confirmed in the last week. I'd like to recognize those great organizations here, and encourage you to visit them for your next meal out, too.

If you do drop by, why not mention that you appreciate their support of local artists?

Flying Star - Do you love coffee? How about ice cream? Baked goods? Sandwiches? Soup? Quiche? You get the picture. If you're an Albuquerque native, you have to love Flying Star, it's a rule. And even though nine times out of ten I call them by their original name, I'm a huge fan. This place is part of the city in so many ways. Plus, the ATGoddess wrote a good portion of the screenplay at a Flying Star!
Hello, Deli I love breakfast burrito at Hello, Deli. One of their massive, cheese-and-chili-smothered creations is enough for breakfast and lunch. Plus, these guys are awesome. They donated breakfast for one day of shooting during the production of CSI:Cop Show Imitation last year, and now they're providing a shooting location for In Character.

Man, I'm hungry now.

Cargo Cult Expands!

Well, the problem with our graphics has been resolved, and we've got old and new Angry Tiki shirts back up! On top of that, we've got mugs, mousepads, and clocks, as well as hats and bags!

First Table Read

Well, we had our first table read last Friday, and in my Angry Tiki Opinion ™, it killed. The cast was great. They read wonderfully and really seemed to get it. They laughed in the right places, and not the wrong ones.

It was so exiting to hear those words coming from the people who'll say them onscreen.

Even better, they really seemed to click with each other. There was a lot of laughter and a lot of history got built in a very short time. This movie demands that the four guys look like they've known each other their whole lives. I don't think that's going to be a problem.

We've got another rehearsal tomorrow night. I can't wait.
